Changelog
Release Notes
A full history of changes, improvements and fixes across every version of Media Forge.
v1.4.6
Latest
16 August 2026
Fixed
- Watch Folder Destination Routing rules based on genre (e.g. Sport, Anime) were not matching files sourced from TMDB, since TMDB has no equivalent genre categories — TMDB-sourced files now resolve genres via TVDB as well for routing purposes
v1.4.5
7 August 2026
Added
- Change Match now updates poster and backdrop automatically; other artwork types (logo, clearart, banner, disc) still require picking from the gallery.
v1.4.4
7 August 2026
Added
- Change Match button in Library Manager — re-match a title that was matched incorrectly, even after its NFO has already been written
v1.4.3
4 August 2026
Added
- Library Manager sort menu — sort your library A-Z, Z-A, Recently Added, Oldest Added, or by Release Date (oldest first or newest first) from the new sort control above the grid
Changed
- Recently Added / Oldest Added sorting is based on each title's folder date — titles indexed before 1.4.3 will need a library rescan for this to populate
v1.4.2
22 July 2026
Fixed
- TMDB-sourced foreign-language titles (e.g. anime) showed the native-language title instead of the English title in File Organiser, Watch Folder, Library Manager and NFO output — now resolves the genuine English translation from TMDB
- Watch Folder pending queue now shows the resolved absolute episode number next to the season/episode badge — previously never displayed even when correctly calculated
- Absolute episode number could disappear from the Watch Folder queue after a repeat queue update, or after switching to or refreshing the Library view — now persists correctly
v1.4.1
14 July 2026
Added
- New {3d} naming token — detects 3D format tags (Half/Full Side-by-Side, Half/Full Top-and-Bottom, MVC) in source filenames and writes them using Jellyfin's 3D naming convention
- Content type scope for Watch Folder routing rules — pin a genre-based rule to Movies, TV Shows, or both, so a single rule no longer sends docuseries and standalone films to the same library
Changed
- Anime absolute episode numbering now uses a single shared calculation path across File Organiser, Watch Folder and NFO generation, preferring TMDB's official absolute episode order where available
Fixed
- Genre-based routing rules (e.g. Documentary) could send both standalone documentary films and multi-episode docuseries into the same library folder, breaking Jellyfin's single-content-type library requirement
v1.4.0
5 July 2026
Added
- Per-library metadata source override — pin specific library paths (e.g. anime, wrestling) to TVDB or TMDB independently of your global default
- Multiple library paths can now be nested inside one another (e.g. /Media/Anime inside /Media) — the more specific path always takes priority for anything inside it
- Settings now shows nested library paths indented under their parent, each with a badge showing which metadata source will actually be used
- New {airyear} naming token for Sports/Date-Based templates — group episodes by the year they aired instead of the real season number
- Clean Up Collections — Settings option to force-refresh stale collection/set tags in existing NFOs for TMDB-sourced titles
- Artwork grid thumbnails now retry automatically if a poster fails to load (e.g. a brief CDN hiccup) instead of showing a broken image
Changed
- TMDB is now available as a metadata source alongside TVDB across every pipeline — File Organiser, Watch Folder, Library Manager and sidebar Generate NFOs
- Sports/Date-Based naming template now uses the real TVDB/TMDB season number by default (e.g. Season 8) — the {airyear} token is available if you'd rather group by year
- Watch Folder now resolves the real season at match time, so the pending queue preview shows the season a file will actually be organised into
Fixed
- TMDB-sourced TV shows were missing their certification/age rating in generated NFOs — now populated correctly
- Season posters were not downloading for TMDB-sourced TV titles
- Watch Folder Find Match search prefill sometimes stripped a release year that was actually part of the title (e.g. Blade Runner 2049)
- Watch Folder override modal incorrectly showed an S01E00 badge when overriding a file to Movie type
- Library path resolution now correctly matches the most specific configured path — a nested library (e.g. Anime) was previously ignored in favour of its parent folder regardless of list order
v1.3.8
28 June 2026
Added
- Episode Tracker — open any TV show in Library Manager to see missing episodes and upcoming air dates pulled live from TVDB; a badge on the button flags gaps before you open it
- Coming Soon — Episode Tracker shows future episodes and season return dates where TVDB has them, with air dates clearly marked as subject to change
- File size now shown in the Watch Folder pending queue alongside the source filename
v1.3.7
24 June 2026
Added
- New {quality} token for naming templates - include resolution or edition tags (4K, 1080p, REMUX, etc.) in filenames to support multi-resolution libraries without conflicts
v1.3.6
21 June 2026
Fixed
- Watch Folder now correctly detects MKV files on Intel Macs — a file stability check was incorrectly treating valid MKV containers as still-copying due to normal EBML null-byte padding, causing them to be silently dropped
v1.3.5
21 June 2026
Added
- Find Match — unmatched Watch Folder files now have a Find Match button in the Needs Attention panel; search TVDB, pick the correct title, and the file is promoted to the pending queue with poster, destination path and Change option before you sync
Fixed
- Unmatched files in the Needs Attention panel were re-added to the queue every time settings were saved or the watcher restarted — they now correctly stay put
- Pending queue destination no longer shows an empty year bracket when TVDB has no year for a title — the year is now parsed from the filename as a fallback
v1.3.4
20 June 2026
Added
- Library Manager now supports multiple library paths — add as many drives or root folders as you need in Settings > Organise; MediaForge scans all of them and merges results into a single view
- If a drive is disconnected, MediaForge scans available paths and shows an alert with a quick link to update your settings or refresh once the drive is reconnected
v1.3.3
18 June 2026
Added
- Library Manager now recognises artwork named by other tools — folder.jpg, backdrop.jpg, logo.png, discart.png and other common Jellyfin, Kodi and Emby conventions are detected and shown as present rather than missing
- Artwork type visibility — choose which artwork types are tracked in Settings > Organise; unchecked types are hidden in the Library Manager and not counted as missing
- Replacing artwork now removes the old alias file automatically — no duplicate files left on disk
Changed
- Download Artwork skips files where a recognised alias already exists on disk — no duplicate artwork created alongside existing files
v1.3.2
12 June 2026
Added
- Library Manager is now accessible in demo and preview mode - browse your first 5 titles and explore the interface before purchasing
Fixed
- Library Manager now detects when the library folder is pointed at the wrong level — if the scan returns mostly season folders rather than titles, results are suppressed and a clear message guides you to correct the path in Settings
- Library Manager no longer renders unusable season folder cards when misconfigured — a clean empty state is shown instead
v1.3.1
2 June 2026
Added
- Anime support — Japanese titles are detected automatically; English alias shown in File Organiser, Watch Folder queue and Override search modal
- Absolute episode numbering tokens {absolute} and {a00} for anime naming templates
- Anime genre routing — files tagged Anime on TVDB route automatically to a dedicated library folder via the {type} token
- Watch Folder queue now groups episodes of the same series under a collapsible header - series metadata and artwork fetched once per batch instead of once per file
- {type} routing token now works in File Organiser as well as Watch Folder
- Episode NFOs now written in your preferred metadata language — English title, plot and originaltitle with native title preserved
- <displayepisode> field added to episode NFOs with the absolute episode number
- Generate NFOs now handles absolute-numbered filenames such as Show - 15.mkv
- New help guides at mediaforge.uk/anime and mediaforge.uk/sport
Changed
- Series and movie plot now correctly prefers translated overview over TVDB default language
v1.3.0
29 May 2026
Added
- Watch Folder — set an Inbox folder and MediaForge silently matches new files against TVDB the moment they arrive; get a macOS notification when a match is found
- Pending queue in Library Manager — review matched files before anything moves, with resolved destination shown for each item
- Per-file destination override — change where a file syncs to before confirming
- Sync All — process all pending files in one click when multiple are waiting
- Companion files (subtitles, NFO, artwork) move with the video automatically on sync
- Unmatched files trigger a notification so nothing goes missing silently
- Library Manager list view — toggle between poster grid and card layout showing plot details and trailers; preference is saved between sessions
- Unresolved naming template tokens (e.g. {token}) now strip silently instead of writing literally to filenames
v1.2.1
16 May 2026
Added
- A–Z quick-jump sidebar in Library Manager — tap any letter to jump straight to that section
- Back to top button in Library Manager — appears after scrolling and returns you to the top instantly
Fixed
- Date-based episode NFOs (wrestling, talk shows, etc.) now fetch real metadata from TVDB — correct episode title, number and plot are written instead of a placeholder title and derived episode number
- Episode thumbnails now download correctly for date-based shows — Download Artwork matches YYYY-MM-DD filenames to TVDB air dates and fetches the correct screencap
- Download Artwork no longer skips date-based shows that have standard artwork but are missing episode thumbnails
v1.2.0
13 May 2026
Added
- Library Manager — browse your entire media library as a visual poster grid, filter by top-level folder, spot missing artwork at a glance, and jump straight into any title to manage its metadata and artwork
- Artwork Browser — browse hundreds of posters, backdrops, logos, banners and disc art from Fanart.tv and TVDB side by side, preview full-size in the lightbox, filter by language, and replace artwork on disk in one click
- Season Posters — season artwork is now fully supported; view what's on disk, browse alternatives, and download or upload season posters directly from the Library Manager
- NFO Generation from Library — generate and update NFO files for your existing library without re-organising, for both movies and TV shows including individual episodes
- New naming tokens — use {tmdbid}, {tvdbid}, and {imdbid} in naming templates for ID-based folder and file naming
- Manual Metadata Entry — enter title, year, type, and optional IMDb ID manually for titles not found in the database; MediaForge will organise the file and generate a basic NFO without a TVDB lookup
v1.1.3
21 April 2026
Added
- Added support for BBC/ITV-style episode naming — files using 'Series 4 1of3' or 'Series 4 1 of 3' format are now correctly recognised and organised.
